you cannot deny the lyrical prowess of pharoahe monch. simon says was an anthem for many years and probably the biggest jump off for a then newly birth label called rawkus records. peep the vids below for more lyrical mastery….

georgia anne muldrow
i can’t even begin to explain the cosmic aura of light that shines when this her music is playing. her first proper release was thru the la based stonesthow label (most famous for releasing Madlib’s music to the world). what’s even more impressive is that homegirl produces all her music herself. not that many female producers reppin out there. peep below for some more cosmicness (if that’s a word)
one of the best songs on lcd soundsystems 1st album
check around youtube for the studio/video version
this was the summer time anthem when it came out. most people don’t realize battlecat has been around for years
rick rock is a legend in the game. watch him knock out a beat in minutes. probably one of the most underrated in the game.
tortoise-prepare your coffin
not sure is this is off of a new album or what (not up on my game since i stopped working for a record store years ago). all the footage was shot in san francsico…
here’s a 30 min performance of tortoise from 2004. i’ve seen them twice, althought the 2nd time was my bday and i was wasted off shots.
Joker (dubstep)
i’m not too familiar with dubstep music, but this guy joker is the truth! he’s a 20 yr old producer out of the uk and his tracks have been in rotation on the iphone here. check below for some other bangin ass tracks.
jel (anticon)
alot of people used to shit on anticon in the late 90’s. but one thing you couldn’t deny was that they had a stable of dope producers. jel uses the mpc like a drum set. i have seen him do his sets live on a sp-1200 which is even crazier before he moved on to the mpc. this guy is a beast on the beats. check the vids and pick up one of his albums. 10 seconds is highly recommended. all done on an sp-1200 and named after the limited sample time on the machine.
Dj shadow-high noon
This is by far my favorite shadow track. In an interview years back he stated that this was at that time the hardest track he ever did. His setup was 2 mpc 3000 le’s and he used all the pads on each machine (32!) to complete the track. The detail this guy achieved when making music is insane…
The last poster
I can’t even begin to explain the crazy shit on this one…..
There’s explanations on everything including the seven deadly sins and even more craziness when the image is mirrored on itself…
Here’s a link to a super ill mix by Dday One of the almighty (C)ontent Label.
“This session is a bit different from the accustomed live mixes which included mostly new and classic material. This time the music selected was inspired by a specific topic. Since I am in full studio/beatmaking mode I foresee the next few podcasts to be in this nature, as going through stacks of vinyl is once again a daily routine”
“60 min mix of cosmic sounds, acetate artifacts and sequencer pulsed rhythms to help in the wonderful splendor that is eclipse watching.”
